The Simple Woman's Daybook -- Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Hosted by Peggy.

Outside my window...a cooler day with thunderstorms likely for the foreseeable future, sunny and green after all the rain we've already gotten.

I am thinking...about how little I'll see Fiona once school starts.

I am thankful... that we caught the earlier bus home last night from work -- so we didn't have to wait another hour or more!

From the learning rooms...picking Becoming a Life Change Artist back up -- it's one of the few books I've read where it's so rich and dense with goodness that I have to keep coming back to it -- still haven't finished it.

In the kitchen... all the dishes clean -- maybe I should ponder making bread tonight or tomorrow.

I am going...  to work Friday, Saturday, & Sunday this weekend.

I am wondering... what tomorrow will be like.

I am reading... The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Boat of Her Own Making, with Fiona.

I am hoping... to be able to see my out-laws a fair bit when they are here in August.

I am looking forward to...last time I did the Daybook I didn't have an answer for this one so I posted on facebook that I needed something to look forward to -- now I have a letter coming from my friend Beth -- a good thing to look forward to.

I am hearing... Fiona playing happily outside, the kitchen clock ticking, and Song of the South by Alabama playing on Pandora -- always reminds me of road trips with my grandparents.

Around the house...needing to unpack the clothes that are in a breaking cardboard box and wash the sheets.  Kellan, Josie, and Jen will be home soon.

One of my favorite things...rain

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...  Fiona with the three things she bought with birthday and Easter money from Grandma and Grandpa Carlson, Grandma King, Grandma Connie and Grandpa Don -- A new sun hat (the skulls were her choice), a stuffed animal/monster she's named Cross-Eyed, and a stencil art book (and one of the pictures she's made with it)!  She really loves being able to pick things out and buy them with her own money.  Thank you to all of you!!

I am thankful for...safe travels for myself and those I love.

From the learning rooms...enjoying watching BBC news & Democracy Now

From the kitchen...I'd like to try to make these crackers:  http://catheolson.blogspot.com/2011/05/blue-corn-crackers.html

I am wearing...a grey knit cotton skirt and a long-sleeve black waffle weave shirt -- clothes that make me happy.

I am going... to create a new resume after my divorce and name change are final.

I am reading...The Bronze and the Brimstone by Lory S. Kaufman

On my mind...plans for the summer, scheduling, finding a job and housing, glad that my housemates are home.

Around the house... laundry to put away and a long weekend coming up

One of my favorite things...feeling like people enjoy being with me.

A few plans for the rest of the week: taking care of Mark and Lilly while Amy works, picking up my prescription at the pharmacy, getting ready to scrapbook next weekend, maybe book club tonight and some decluttering and packing for moving.

The Simple Woman's Daybook -- Sunday, December 12, 2010

Hosted by Peggy

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... lots more sun than I'll be experiencing in Indiana in a few days. :)

I am thinking... that life is unpredictable and depending on how you view that fact, you can either relax or freak out.

I am thankful for... Amy and Tim, who bought me my train tickets "home", for a washer and dryer, for my friend Kacy whom I've known for more than half my life, and for Dara whom I've known for a hard to believe short time.

From the learning rooms... I guess they weren't joking when they said I needed to put masking tape around my cross-stitch...oops.

From the kitchen... homemade trail mix -- pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, slivered almonds, maple syrup, and dried cherries.  Perfect for the train.

I am creating... an elaborate butterfly cross-stitch for my six-year-old daughter.

I am going... to be glad to see my mom.

I am reading... I'm actually sort of in between books right now, which is extremely unusual for me.  Just lots of preparatory activities going on.  I'll probably start a new one on the train.

I am hoping... that my cramps are largely over by the time I board the train tomorrow evening.

I am hearing... Billy Joel singing And So It Goes on Pandora.  <3

Around the house... cleaning up the basement for the guests who will be using it while I am gone, trying to pack but not making too much progress, trying to pay a few bills before I leave.

One of my favorite things... feeling better after you've been really sick.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  I'll arrive at Chicago Union Station at 3 on Tuesday afternoon and then probably catch the train to Elkhart, IN.  I'll be in Goshen visiting friends and family this week.  I'll also continue to work on my present for Fiona and divorce paperwork.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Mark and Lilly, our two young housemates -- I know we will be happy to see them when we come back from Indiana.

From the learning rooms... a new cross-stitch technique, when I start a present for Fiona.

From the kitchen... lots of clean dishes and hopefully trying some recipes from the Five Ingredient Fix cookbook I have out from the library.

I am wearing... the same clothes I wore yesterday.  I'll probably take a shower eventually and fix that.

I am creating... a better tomorrow.

I am going... to try to make it to Art Night on Saturday.

I am reading... Journey to the Center of the Earth (by Jules Verne) with my daughter.

The Simple Woman's Daybook -- November 20, 2010

Hosted by Peggy

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... I'm in the basement again this morning, so I just see the corrugated metal of the egress window and some sticks that have fallen down there.  :)
I am thinking... I should change my last name to Peppermint.  :)
I am thankful for... my daughter's friends and their families who make her feel welcome and for smiling.
From the learning rooms... Just barely beginning to learn how to crochet.  Hoping to learn more soon -- (you know, like learning how to make something other than a very long very thin string) but happy with what I've actually retained.
From the kitchen...eggnog!
I am creating... more order in my living space.
I am going... to make mistakes and try again anyway.
I am reading...Savor:  Mindful Eating, Mindful Life by Thich Nhat Hanh & Dr. Lilian Cheung -- I'll start it today.
I am hoping... My doctor will send a report (detailing her idea of what my body will be like long-term) to my lawyer before Thanksgiving so we can be one step closer to settlement in my being-hit-by-a-car case.
I am hearing... "Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks, on Pandora, Nico purring and, other than that, a very quiet house on a Saturday morning.  It's the little things.
Around the house... All four of my housemates are gone for a full week.  I'll clean up the kitchen while they are away and catch up on laundry and take care of Nico the cat and take the garbage out and check the mail.
One of my favorite things...  Watching people be kind to each other.
A few plans for the rest of the week:  Taking care of Kolya on Monday and Tuesday so Lauren can get some good studying done, hopefully getting more stuff posted on Craigslist or Freecycle, taking a good look at the divorce forms the (new) mediator said to start with, and maybe I'll actually finish creating an account on the government job website.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

I believe this was my 30th birthday party a few months before we moved to Colorado.
