100 Cupboards by N.D. Wilson

This book was one of Fiona's Christmas presents.

Henry's parents are missing and he is sent to Henry, Kansas to live with his aunt, uncle, and three cousins; Penelope, Anastasia, and Henrietta.  When Henry hears noises on the other side of his attic bedroom wall, he begins to scrap off the plaster and discovers 99 cupboards doors, each one different from the last. Henrietta soon joins him as he tries to figure out what is beyond each door and why they have been hidden.

I wasn't in love with this book, but I think Fiona enjoyed it.  It's fairly dark and I wouldn't recommend it for a younger reader who is sensitive to such things -- some of the worlds behind the cupboard doors are pretty scary indeed.

100 Cupboards is the first in a series.  Dandelion Fire is the second -- we haven't read it but I love the title.  :)
