HAPPY FRIDAY!
Twenty minutes later we came out of the forest into a sloped pasture, the silky grass dotted with white and blue wildflowers.

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.
~The Night Fairy by Laura Amy Schlitz & illustrated by Angela BarrettFlory was a night fairy.Cover of The Night Fairy
Well, this first sentence certainly sets the stage for the rest of the book. ;) I've been reading this book with my six-year-old daughter and our two young housemates (ages 5 and 11). It's a little tricky as a night-time read with people in three different beds because it's hard to share Angela Barrett's beautiful watercolor illustrations. But we just make sure to look at a few before we start and more in the morning. :)

So funny, when i read the opener I thought to myself "is this a kids book?" and then I read that you were reading it with your kids! Hope they are enjoying it
ReplyDeleteI like both of the sentences...you're the first person today who did both 56 and beginnings together (which I did today for the first time!).
ReplyDeleteYou'll find my 56 and beginnings here:

20 minutes later from doing what exactly??
ReplyDeleteMy Friday 56 is The Fugitive
OK. I guess the next question is, what's a night fairy?
ReplyDeleteMy beginning is from Northward to the Moon by Polly Horvath.
Night Fairy, I like that!
ReplyDeleteMy beginning is from Stolen by Lucy Christopher.
Becky, we are almost finished with The Night Fairy and have definitely enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLaurel, I'll go check it out!
Live Out Loud -- good question -- it turned out being a book I didn't finish, so I don't know. :)
Sarah -- I think the general idea is that night fairies are fairies who are born at night and thus are most powerful then.
Gautami, I'll check yours out, too!
